The Florida Keys is set to Close Again.... Kind of???
The Monroe County Board of Directors has recently met yesterday in a special meeting to discuss plans and protective measures for the Florida Keys with the increase in Spikes due to the Novel Corona Virus.
Currently, the County Commissioners had a large demand to close the Florida Keys as lobster mini season and regular season is fast approaching, bringing in thousands of tourists.
This would not be the first time this happened either, back in March, the County Commissioners Closed the Florida Keys and then reopened back in June.
The Commissioners opted to not send a letter to the FWC (Florida Fish & Wild Life) to cancel the 2020 Lobster Mini Season, and instead opted to tweak vacation rental plans, mask ordinances, and close public parks and beaches.
New Plans Taking Place July 24th - August 9th, 2020
Vacation Rentals
- Maximum Occupancy 6 Guests
- Only Two People per bedroom
- Name & Telephone Number Posted Outside
- Enforce Noise and Occupancy Ordinances
Boat Ramps
- All Public Boat Ramps Closed for Key Largo & Islamorada
- Public Parks Closed for Key Largo & Islamorada
- Locals Only Allowed in Harry Harris Park
Mask Requirements
- $250 Citation For not Wearing Mask
What We Know moving forward
We know that there is a large majority of locals that feel the County is stretching in these rules and there is a large majority on wanting further restrictions and consequences for violaters.
We think that the County cannot officially close down the Florida Keys like they did in March, otherwise it probably would have been done.
What concerns locals is that the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners did not close anything South of Islamorada, which will lead a large amount of guests piling in Marathon, Big Pine, and Key West.
What We are doing
The Florida Keys Wedding Center is ensuring that the current couples that we have booked are taken care of.
As public beaches and parks are closed, we are working and making sure we have Plan B and Plan C options in place.
With things changing so frequently, we understand that planning an event may seem stressful, however we are staying on top of every report and are here to make sure you are taken care of.
